"Smart transport" international forum: St. Petersburg Card suggests unlimited transportation ticket for tourists

25-28 May, 2016: "Expoforum" congress and exhibition centre gathered participants and guests of "Smart Transport" - an international forum devoted to implementing innovation technologies in Saint Petersburg transport infrastructure. The forum was organized by Russian Ministry of Transport and supported by the Administrations of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast.

During the event, several panel and roundtable discussions were held, including one that tackled issues of domestic and inbound tourism in St. Petersburg. Andrey Shapovalov, General director of St. Petersburg Card program gave a report, sharing experience with industry colleagues on integrating a regular transport pass in the City Card. He emphasized the importance of including an unlimited transport ticket in the Card, according to the European practice and based on multiple tourist requests.

Mr Shapovalov spoke on the evolution of the service and gave statistics on how tourists use transport option within St. Petersburg Card - in its current format. All the data points to high demand from individual travelers for a terminable unlimited transport pass, as well as economic relevance of introducing special rates.

"We are certain that a consistent dialogue with respective industry committees will finally result in a solution which is satisfying for all, and that it will happen in the foreseeable future", he added.
