The State Hermitage is one of the world most popular museums. 3 million exhibits, 350 halls, one of the top world fine art collections as well as a place that hosts the archaeological artefacts of the ancient peoples of Europe and Asia. 

One could hardly overestimate the rich collection of the museum. The Hermitage boasts of the works of fine art Rembrandt, Titian, Leonardo da Vinci, Rafael Santi, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Rubens. The gala halls preserved the interiors of the imperial palace of the 19-20 centuries and may tell the story of the court life tzarist Russia from both gala and intimate sides, the latter – through the royal private rooms. The antiquities collections will tell the story of Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, the Middle East and the nomads of Siberia, as well as India, China and other Oriental cultures.

Hermitage is also among the world top visited museums. During the high season from May to September the expectation time in the lines may take from 1 to 4 hours or even more. The museum controls the number of visitors, but the peak hours from the opening till 14.00 (2 p.m.) and on Tuesday throughout the day may be more than busy at the classical and popular routes inside the museum.

We advise to buy an e-ticket for a skip-the-line visit than will allow you to enter the museum through a different entry. The e-ticket is valid for visiting the main museum complex, including the Winter Palace, and the Eastern Wing of the General Staf on the same day. 

St. Petersburg Card does not include the main museum complex, so an additional ticket is required. Still, St. Petersburg Card provides free entry to the Eastern Wing of General Staff Buidling (Hermitage Rossi) and other subsidiary museums of the Hermitage: Menshikov Palace, Imperial porcelain factory museum and Winter Palace of Peter the Great.
