The State Russian Museum


The State Russian Museum was established in 1895 in St Petersburg by a decree of the Emperor Nicholas II. Nowadays the museum collection contains more than 400.000 exhibits and covers the entire history of Russian fine art from the Xth century to the present day. It reflects virtually every form and genre of art in Russia, including a unique collection of Old Russian icons, works of painting, graphic art and sculpture, decorative and applied art, folk art and numismatics, as well as the world’s finest collection of Russian avant-garde.

Russian Musem is a place to see pld Russian orthodox icons as well as the works by Aivazovsky, Chagal, Goncharova, Falk, Filonov, Fokin, Kandinsky, Konchalovsky, Kustodiev, Kuznetsov, Larionov, Lentulov, Levitan, Makovsky, Malevich, Nesterov, Petrov-Vodkin, Polenov, Popova, Repin, Rodchenko, Roerich, Serov, Surikov, Tatlin, Vasnetsov,  Vereshchagin, Vrubel, and this is not the whole list.
