The State Russian Museum


The State Russian Museum was established in 1895 in St Petersburg by a decree of the Emperor Nicholas II. Nowadays the museum collection contains more than 400.000 exhibits and covers the entire history of Russian fine art from the Xth century to the present day. It reflects virtually every form and genre of art in Russia, including a unique collection of Old Russian icons, works of painting, graphic art and sculpture, decorative and applied art, folk art and numismatics, as well as the world’s finest collection of Russian avant-garde.

The ticket is valid for the main building of the Russian museum and the Benoit wing.

An exhibition "Karl Marx forever?", dedicated to the image of Karl Marx in Russian culture and everyday life, will be opened from October 17, 2018 to January 14, 2019.

The Benoit wing hosts an exhibition "Scarves and shawls in Russia of the 18th – 21st  centuries" from December 19, 2018 to March 11, 2019. The exhibition shows the stages of development of the domestic textile industry, artistic traditions in the design of scarves and shawls from the 18th  to the beginning of the 21st  centuries.
